Code P034C: Ion Sense System Performance

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P034C (Ion Sense System Performance) applies to ignition systems that use ion-sense technology — reading the small current conducted through the spark plug gap after firing — as an alternate method of detecting misfire and knock without a dedicated knock sensor. It sets when the ion-sense circuitry in the ignition module or coil driver reports a signal pattern outside its expected performance envelope, most often from a degraded coil/ion-sense driver stage, a fouled spark plug skewing the post-spark signal, or ECM software needing an update for the ion-sense calibration.
