Code P050B: Cold Start Ignition Timing Performance
Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P050B (Cold Start Ignition Timing Performance) sets when a cold-start-specific readiness monitor does not reach its target state within the calibrated post-start window, before the ECM allows the engine to transition to its normal warmed-up control strategy. Because these monitors are gated on coolant temperature and elapsed run time, the dominant root cause is a delayed or incomplete engine warm-up — most often a thermostat stuck open or rated too cold, a low coolant level, or a coolant/intake air temperature sensor under-reporting actual temperature; a sluggish subsystem actuator (turbo wastegate, fuel system, or SCR heater) can also be the direct cause.

This is the first procedure in the authored
consideration order, not a measured cause likelihood. Execute it only when its prerequisites
and diagnostic findings support it. Its cost and labor estimates (where known), the step-by-step procedure and the
