Code P0A23: Generator Torque Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0A23 sets when the control module detects an implausible reading from the generator's torque sensor, evaluated against the generator's commanded torque during engine-start assist and charge-blending events rather than continuous propulsion load. The most common physical causes are a corroded or unseated torque-sensor connector, chafed signal wiring near the transaxle housing, and a strain-gauge element that has drifted internally, sometimes accelerated by the repeated torque transients of engine restarts. Because the generator's torque duty cycle is intermittent, a marginal sensor here can pass a static check and only fail during an actual engine-start event.
