System: Powertrain (P-Code)
SAE Standard (Generic)
Family: Engine Hood Switch Circuit
Code P257E: Engine Hood Switch Circuit Low
Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P257E (Engine Hood Switch Circuit Low) sets when the ECM/BCM sees an open, shorted, or implausible signal from the switch that detects whether the hood is open or closed, used on some platforms to inhibit remote start or PTO operation for safety, or the module detects the hood is genuinely open when it should be closed. Causes are a misadjusted or corroded hood switch, water intrusion at its under-hood mounting location, or chafed wiring in the engine-bay harness.
