System: Powertrain (P-Code)
SAE Standard (Generic)
Family: Catalyst Heater Control Module
Code P2AB1: Catalyst Heater Control Module Performance
Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P2AB1 (Catalyst Heater Control Module Performance) sets when the module that electrically pre-heats the catalytic converter for faster light-off fails its internal performance check or reports a supply voltage outside its operating range. Because this module switches high current to heat the catalyst brick within seconds of a cold start, causes are a degraded high-current connector, a failed internal power-stage component, or a marginal battery/charging system unable to supply the heater's startup current draw.
