EVAP Reference Orifice Performance
Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P043E (EVAP System Leak Detection Reference Orifice Low Flow) sets when the EVAP monitor's calibrated reference orifice — used to define the exact flow rate that represents the small-leak threshold during a self-test — reads too much or too little flow compared to its known-good calibration value. Causes are a partially clogged reference orifice, a leak in the reference-orifice plumbing itself, or a failing leak-detection module that cannot regulate flow through the reference path.
These 2 diagnostic trouble codes share one
detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single
authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 2 times.
