EVAP Vent Valve Stuck
Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P2421 (EVAP System Vent Valve Stuck Open) sets when the ECM commands the EVAP canister vent valve open or closed and pressure/vacuum feedback shows the valve mechanically did not move, distinct from an open-circuit wiring fault. A valve stuck open leaves the system unable to hold vacuum for leak testing, while one stuck closed traps pressure in the tank; dirt, ice, or corrosion binding the valve's sealing element are the common causes.
