Immobilizer Key Circuit
Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0513 (Incorrect Immobilizer Key) sets when the ECM's anti-theft immobilizer function fails to recognize the transponder key being used to start the vehicle, or a control module was installed without the required security key-learn procedure being completed. Causes are a weak or damaged key transponder chip, an antenna ring around the ignition lock that has degraded, or a control module replacement that still needs keys registered with a scan tool.
These 2 diagnostic trouble codes share one
detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single
authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 2 times.
