Intake Air Heater Circuit

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0540 (Intake Air Heater A Circuit) sets when the ECM detects an open circuit, out-of-range current, or a performance fault while driving the intake air heater (grid heater) used to warm incoming air for cold-weather starting and combustion stability. Causes are a burnt-out heater grid element, a failed heater relay, or damaged control/power wiring.

These 15 diagnostic trouble codes share one detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 15 times.
