Code P088E (Planetary Gear Set Failure) sets when the TCM's shaft-speed cross-checks indicate a planetary gear set is not transmitting torque as commanded, consistent with broken gear teeth, a shattered planet carrier, or failed thrust bearings. This is a major internal mechanical failure requiring transmission teardown, not a sensor or electrical fix.
