Shift Motor Position Sensor

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P28E7 (Shift Motor Position Sensor Circuit/Open) sets when the TCM sees an open, shorted, or implausible signal from the shift motor's position sensor, a position that has never been learned, or a learned value that has drifted past its limit, leaving the TCM unsure which gear position the mechanism physically occupies. Causes are a worn position sensor, a lost calibration after battery disconnection or repair, and mechanical wear letting the true position drift from the learned map.

These 6 diagnostic trouble codes share one detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 6 times.
