Shift Quality Performance

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0780 (Shift Error) sets when the TCM measures a specific shift event (or overall shift timing) taking too long, too short, or occurring between the wrong gears, or detects multiple gears engaged/a component slipping during a shift. Unlike a single solenoid's electrical fault, this is a hydraulic/mechanical performance measurement, so causes are low or contaminated transmission fluid, worn friction elements not building pressure fast enough, a sticking valve body, or an out-of-adaptation shift-quality learn.

These 25 diagnostic trouble codes share one detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 25 times.
