Throttle Idle Position Not Learned
Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
P2176 (Throttle Actuator A Control System - Idle Position Not Learned) means the ECM has not yet completed or has lost its stored idle/closed-throttle position learn for the electronic throttle, which it needs to distinguish a fully closed throttle from sensor drift. This typically follows a battery disconnect, a throttle body replacement, or an ECM reflash without the required idle relearn procedure, though a throttle plate binding just enough to prevent full closure can also block the learn from completing.
These 2 diagnostic trouble codes share one
detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single
authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 2 times.
