Fault Family System: Powertrain (P-Codes) 5 SAE Codes

Transmission Fluid Overtemp Condition

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P0218 (Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Over Temperature Condition) sets when the transmission fluid temperature sensor reports a reading above the calibrated safe limit. Causes are low or degraded transmission fluid, a failing transmission cooler or cooler lines, towing/load beyond the vehicle's rating, or a slipping clutch pack generating excess heat.

These 5 diagnostic trouble codes share one detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 5 times.
