Code P253B: PTO Sense Circuit Range/Performance

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation
Code P253B (PTO Sense Circuit Range/Performance) sets when the ECM sees an open, shorted, implausible, or intermittent signal from the sensor that confirms actual power take-off engagement status, as distinct from the driver's enable switch or the auxiliary shutdown input. Causes are a worn or misadjusted PTO engagement sensor, a corroded connector at the transmission-mounted PTO unit, or chafed wiring routed near the driveline.
