Code P224C (Alternative Fuel Tank Shutoff Valve A Control Circuit/Open) sets when the ECM detects an open circuit, out-of-range current, or a stuck condition while driving the solenoid-operated shutoff valve that isolates the compressed/liquefied alternative-fuel tank from the supply line. This is a valve/solenoid actuation fault, not a sensor fault — causes are a failed valve solenoid coil, a mechanically stuck valve poppet, or damaged wiring in the tank-compartment harness. Because the valve sits directly on a pressurized gas tank, any service must follow the vehicle's AFV depressurization and tank-isolation procedure before disconnecting anything.
