Drive Motor Temperature Sensor

Diagnostic & Technical Explanation

Code P0A2A sets when the control module detects an implausible reading from the thermistor embedded directly in a drive motor stator winding slot — the temperature disagrees with the motor's real-time thermal model built from recent phase current and duty cycle. Because the sensing element and its leads are potted into the winding itself, the most common failure is a lead fracturing at the point it exits the slot insulation from vibration, rather than a simple external connector fault; the low-voltage pigtail that carries the signal out of the motor housing can also corrode where it meets the harness. On oil-cooled designs the sensor can also report a false-high reading if the oil spray bar has lost flow to that specific winding segment.

These 26 diagnostic trouble codes share one detection mechanism and one repair path, which is why MechanicDB groups them into a single authored fault family rather than repeating the same explanation 26 times.
