Code P0A2A sets when the control module detects an implausible reading from the thermistor embedded directly in a drive motor stator winding slot — the temperature disagrees with the motor's real-time thermal model built from recent phase current and duty cycle. Because the sensing element and its leads are potted into the winding itself, the most common failure is a lead fracturing at the point it exits the slot insulation from vibration, rather than a simple external connector fault; the low-voltage pigtail that carries the signal out of the motor housing can also corrode where it meets the harness. On oil-cooled designs the sensor can also report a false-high reading if the oil spray bar has lost flow to that specific winding segment.
