P22C5 (Turbocharger Compressor Outlet Valve Control Circuit/Open) covers the motorized or solenoid valves that route charge air and exhaust on sequential or twin-turbocharger systems — compressor outlet valves, outlet switching valves, and turbine inlet valves that bring the second turbo on line. The ECM distinguishes driver-circuit opens and shorts from a valve that no longer reaches its commanded position; carbon and oil-residue seizure of the valve shaft is the leading mechanical cause on the exhaust side, while a failed actuator motor or vacuum diaphragm is more common on the compressor side.
